The Audi e-tron GT Concept is the electric car we wish BMW would make

We know that BMW has some very interesting and exciting electric cars in the pipeline, such as the BMW i4. However, what it’s been showing off lately has been pretty boring, especially when you compare it to what the competition is bringing. For instance, while BMW is showing off the Vision iNEXT, an electric and autonomous SUV with beaver teeth faux grilles, the Audi e-tron GT Concept debuted alongside it and stole the Bimmer’s lunch.

The Audi e-tron GT Concept is the second all-electric car from Audi in just a few months. The first was the e-tron SUV, which really impressed us, with its range, three-stage regenerative braking and advanced battery cooling that bests everything else in the industry. Now, the e-tron GT Concept has blown us away.

That’s because it’s a sleek, sexy four-door Sportback that’s been developed on the same chassis as the Porsche Taycan. It also gets two electric motors, one at each axle, that combine to make 590 hp and  0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds. Audi also claims a max range of 248 miles, which is the same as the e-tron SUV. Like its Taycan sibling, it also gets 800-volt charging capabilities. While 800-volt charging isn’t really available to the public, it’s nice to know that the e-tron GT will have the capability when the tech is available.

And the Audi e-tron GT Concept will be available first, as Audi claims it to be going on sale next year. So while it’s a concept now, come sometime in 2019 the Audi e-tron GT will be a production car. Which puts Audi far ahead of BMW next year, as it will have two fully-electric cars with more than 200 miles of range and tons of technology. In fact, it puts Audi right at the forefront of electric technology, which is a shocking turnaround considering how late Audi joined the party.
