Tips to Purchase Solar Panels

Tips to Purchase Solar Panels

These are the most relevant parameters in a quotation.

Poly modules are cheaper in general

Maybe between 1-3 c$/W, depending on the cells and the wattage of the panel. Poly modules work better for non-tracking systems and with the diffuse component of sunlight.

240-260W and 290-310W were cheaper

That was our experience. Actually the market for the 60-72 cells panels is bigger, therefore it is easy to adjust pricing better.

Tolerance

Positive tolerance could involve 2-6c$/W. This is due to the use of more efficient cells for positive tolerance 0/+3% panels. You have to take this variable into account considering that these modules have a high power output during the lifetime of the device.

Panel Wattage

There is not a big difference in the prices for this variable.

Total Wattage

The bigger the amount of panels the lower the rates $/W. This is an asymptotic variable.

Cell size

Nowadays 6” cells are more commonly used than 5”, thus more affordable due to facilitating economies of scale. This is true except to the stock/restocking orders.

Purchase day

It is easy to adjust pricing for orders with a purchase time within the next 2-3 days. The nearest the purchasing decision, more I can push to negotiate.

Delivery time

We can offer better prices for orders with a delivery time within the next 4-8 weeks. This is due to the workload of the production lines, which is known. After this time frame it become a random factor.

Delivery destination

We can quote for a delivery point at U.S. port, at your warehouse, or at the project location. The difference between any of them is going to be small. We will need the delivery address with postal code to give you an accurate quote.

Incoterm

We always quote DDP incoterm. It’s Tamesol’s policy for the U.S. market. You can also request for a FOB or CIF quote, but we don’t recommend these incoterms. The difference could reach up to 5c$/W or more, but the risk is multiplied by a higher factor.

Stock orders

Usually are expensive because you can buy and take them in the same day. There is an exception. Restocking orders are normally cheaper, up to 2-5c$/W. This is because the panels are manufactured but not sold, the investment to produce them is made, so the sooner they can be sold, the sooner the cash is back.

MOQ

This allows you to take advantage of working directly with a manufacturer, and ensures that we can give a competitive price. The total wattage depends on the panel model and its power e.g. 328u of 250W modules for a 20ft container.

Warranty

The difference could arrange up to 3-6c$/W between manufacturers for accessing to the same warranty. The best warranty is that you don’t need to use, so the manufacturer and its background become an important factor.

Additional coverages

This could add 10 to 25% to the price, depending on the insurance company and the coverages included.

Price list

Quotes from pricelist are in general more expensive, due to not taking in account the market and the production workload existing parameters.

These are the tips we could give you because of our experience as manufacturers of solar panels for over 11 years and prosperous relationship with customers around the world. In Tamesol, we have been working in last years in Europe, positioning us as leaders in our segment with a quality product with a multitude of certifications. This year, we have enabled a delegation in the United States, to attend the growing demand for photovoltaic panels in North America.
